Braised Pork Hocks




1 kg pork hocks
3 tbsp oil
1 chopped onion
2 tbsp chopped garlic
2 laurel leaves
1 star anise
1/4 cup soysauce
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup vinegar
2 cups water
some spring onions (optional)

  1. boil pork hocks for 2 mins , wash/ rinse the hock to remove the blood.
  2. heat oil saute galic, onion, laurel leaves and staranise.
  3. when onions begins to brown add in the pork hocks stir for 1-2 mins then start adding soysauce, sugar and vinegar, stir to coat all sides of the pork with sauce when sauce starts to boil add the water , cover and let it boil under high heat for few mins then turn the heat to low and let it cook for 1 1/2 hours, to thcken the sauce turn the heat to high stirring occasionally until the sauce is reduced to desired consistency, you may add more sugar or soysauce according to preference.
  4. sprinkle some springonions and cover for few mins before serving.
